An unusual assault case was reported Sunday afternoon by the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department. A news release from the department states that officers responded to the reported assault at a service station near the Kentucky-Tennessee state line where they located 38 year old Greg Ball, of Tennessee, who had been injured with severe cuts to his neck. Investigators say a brief interview with the victim led them to believe he had been attacked by another man with a saw. The victim was then airlifted to University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville for treatment. Officers identified the suspect in the attack, 37 year old Jody Currier of Jellico, Tennessee, who later turned himself into authorities where he admitted to the attack. Two women were also arrested during the course of the investigation for public intoxication. Currier was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center on the charge of first degree assault as the investigation continues.
