Since 2007 Gayle Borders has been director of the McCreary Center of Somerset Community College after getting into the education field later in life. The McCreary County Record reports this week on Mrs. Borders’ career, her late entry into that career and her plans after retirement. After leaving college to get married and raise her children, she got back into school at age 51 eventually earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees and getting into teaching. Borders then got involved with the hospitality management program at Somerset Community College which led her to teaching courses at the McCreary Center and taking over as director five years ago. All of this comes in addition to owning and operating her own catering business for nearly twenty years. Gayle Borders is set to retire from the McCreary Center and a public retirement celebration is planned for today (Thursday November 29th) from 3:00-5:30pm in building two of the center in Whitley City.
